Zakuski: Little Bites

Zakuski or “little bites” are many and varied. They are hot or cold, pickled or marinated, salted smoked and dried. From caviar to salat Oliv'ye to mushrooms and little ‘pirozhki’ whether humble or grand they all make up the zakuski table. No deserving zakuski table is complete without a variety of well- chilled vodkas - drunk straight, never mixed, preferably in one go - followed by a tasty zakuska. Toasts are said and glasses are replenished. Above all, eating zakuski is a social affair and a great way to get people together.
